AN amazing morning of fundraising was had in the Charter Hall on July 9 with the mayor’s charity coffee morning.
The event raised a grand total of £620 for charity with competitions, raffles, tombolas and stalls. Town mayor Cllr Jan Goffey, chair of the Okehampton Neigh-bourhood Plan Group Alison Duckers and Cllr Derek Webber of Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council used the occasion to present the winners of the Neighbourhood Plan Survey draw with their cheques, they were Mrs Barbara Osborne, Mrs B Curtis and Mrs Karen Wayne.
Cllr Jan Goffey said: ‘Thanks to everyone who helped, who came and took part in all the competitions and raffles and bought cakes. I want as many local charities as possible to benefit from my mayoral year so for 13 groups to have this opportunity to raise awareness of their work and increase their funds was very gratifying.
‘Coffee Mornings are an Okehampton institution that must raise thousands of pounds every year for all sorts of local charities, if you are in town on a Saturday, pop into the Charter Hall, or the Church Hall and support a charity.’
Okehampton and District Community Transport Group held the main raffle, the Museum of Dartmoor Life served refreshments.
Other stalls were manned by the Friendly Circle, Okehampton Carnival committee, Turning Tides, The Glen, the Carer’s Group, the Ockment Centre, the Macular Degeneration Society, Operation Hernia, Dartmoor Search and Rescue, Okehampton Community Garden and the Forget Me Not Cafe.
