LYDFORD Primary recently hosted an afternoon of orienteering for all the primary schools in the Okehampton Learning Community.

As a result, 80 Year 5 pupils from ten different schools spent a sunny afternoon learning about the sport of orienteering.

The youngsters were introduced first how to locate their position on a map, then moved onto using those skills to navigate around a simple course.

The whole afternoon culminated in the children having the chance to try a competitive orienteering course around the school grounds for a chance to win the Lydford Orienteering Trophy.

The eventual winners were a team from Lydford — Jess, Stephen and Thomas — who managed to get all the controls correct in the shortest time.

The organisers expressed thanks to everyone who helped and to the children for making it an enjoyable afternoon.
