A BERE Alston girl is off on the challenge of a lifetime next April, as she heads out to the jungles of Borneo during her gap year.
Amy Maddaford, who recently left Tavistock College with A-levels in business studies, art and Japanese, travels to Borneo with the Trekforce organisation.
?I?ll be spending two months in the jungle doing a conservation project and trekking, then another two months teaching,? said Amy.
?It will be in a village area, but I won?t know where I?ll be until I get there.?
Amy said she was really looking forward to visiting Borneo, a country which ?stuck out? as being a bit different. The only aspect she was not enthusiastic about was the local insect life.
?I?m not very good with spiders,? she said.
Amy has to raise £3,450 to fund her trip to Borneo. She has already collected £1,090 and is planning a series of events to try and raise the balance, including car boot sales, raffles and car washing.
