Premier League Cup

quarter-final

Hatherleigh 1

Witheridge 2

HATHERLEIGH, as in recent weeks, showed good commitment in this hard fought cup match. Playing with a strong wind in the first half they more than matched their opponents and could well have gone in at the break leading.

Witheridge, however, drew first blood and went ahead with a well worked goal through Lethbridge. The home side continued to cause the visitors problems at the back and it was not long before their efforts were rewarded with a penalty converted by Andy Harnell.

With the bit between their teeth Hatherleigh pushed forward and almost went ahead with good efforts from Stuart Dymond and Jamie Halpin.

The second half saw Witheridge take the ascendancy and although Hatherleigh defended well the visitors always seemed in control.

With 20 minutes gone of the second half and chances few and far between Witheridge again worked the ball down the wing and the resulting cross found Vellacott unmarked in the box, who finished in spectacular style with an overhead kick.

Hatherleigh threw men forward but could not force the openings they wanted to grab an equaliser.

This week Hatherleigh are away to Exeter University.
