Lewdown Young Farmers have expressed huge thanks to everyone who attended their annual tractor run on Sunday in which almost 100 tractors took part.

The young farmers, friends and family from Lewdown and the surrounding areas turned out in droves to watch the procession of 98 tractors, ranging from old to new, follow a route stretching from Marystow to Lewdown. The procession passed through Lifton, around Roadford Lake and through Bratton Clovelly. The route was organised by close friends of the group Mary and Eddy Vigers and led by Eddy in his tractor.

Conditions inflicted by the storm were no deterrent: over 160 people of all ages attended the event and many tractors had cabs on to protect drivers from the elements. Last year, a special event held in memory of the club’s first-ever chairman Dave Seccombe saw 123 tractors join the procession.

The tractor run was conducted to raise money for charities Hospiscare, The Stroke Association and Brain Tumour Research. Final donations are still in the process of being collected, but club chair Amy Lethbridge is certain that the total will reach four figures. The club is looking forward to an Easter Bingo event next, which will be held at the Victory Hall in Lewdown.
