WATER will be splashing around at Tavistock parish church this coming Sunday, but not due to the recent storms — the church is starting the new year with a special celebration, for families, of baptism, the start of Christian life.
An informal service of songs, readings and prayers, particularly aimed at young children, will explore the meaning of baptism; and there will be an opportunity for those who have been baptised to be gently splashed as a reminder of their own baptism.
The service is being held on the day when churches across the world remember the baptism of Jesus.
The Rev Michael Briereley, priest in charge at Tavistock Parish Church said: 'Just like we celebrate our birthdays, it's very appropriate to celebrate the day we started out on our spiritual life, and this is a wonderfully fun way of doing so. We welcome everyone along.'
The service begins at 3pm, and lasts about 30 minutes, and will be followed by tea in church. Everyone is warmly invited to attend.
