A SPECIAL concert is being organised by the mayor of Tavistock and Tavistock Musical Theatre Company next month to raise money for victims of the tsunami disaster. Peter Clements, chairman of the company, said a number of members had been keen to organise something to raise money for the fund ? and when he went to the town hall to book the venue, he met Cllr Jenny Metcalf who had been eager to arrange something herself. He said: ?It all just slotted together really. The concert will include songs from the musicals we have done over the last four years. ?There will be some soloists coming up from Plymouth and we have a leading mezzo soprano joining us called Helen Mallett ? I think it?s going to be a really smashing evening.? The concert will feature numbers from The King and I, Calamity Jane, My Fair Lady, South Pacific and The Mikado, which the company will be performing later this year at The Wharf. George Terry will be musical director for the event. Peter said: ?So many people have been so helpful to us as well. Lamerton Village Hall committee are letting us use their hall free for rehearsals, Adam from the Wharf is doing the lighting for nothing ? lots of people have been so supportive to us.? Cllr Metcalf said: ?I?m really quite excited about this. It was so nice that everything just came together like it did.? The concert will take place on February 5 in Tavistock Town Hall. Tickets cost £6 each, and are available from the pannier market or Soft Touch Needlecrafts in the market perimeter.
