MORE than 24 organisations were on Tavistock's Bedford Square for a community event with a special bonus for dog owners and cyclists last Saturday. West Devon Borough Council's Connect service co-ordinated the Tavistock Community Morning which took place between 10am and 1pm. In addition to free information and advice about a range of public and support services, Devon and Cornwall Police was there to register and fit Selectamark security kits to bicycles which help to deter thieves and aid the recovery of stolen bikes. The kits usually cost £5 but were available on the day for a donation to the Devon Air Ambulance thanks to a grant from West Devon Borough and Devon County Cllr Debo Sellis. Animal welfare charity, Dogs Trust, offered free micro-chipping for dogs. It normally costs around £20 and will be compulsory for all dogs by 2016. Residents were also able to help shape the future of West Devon by getting involved with developing Our Plan – the borough's strategic plan for community needs and council services between now and 2031. They could have their say on the plan, which covers vital issues including homes, jobs, buildings, energy needs and land use. Tavistock Area Support Services also had a stand on the square. The charity has been helping to support people over 55 from Tavistock and surrounding areas since 1985. A host of other organisations were represented at the event including Devon Wheels 2 Work, Action on Hearing Loss, Dartmoor National Park Authority, Tavistock Community Sports  Centre, South West Water, Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and Learn Devon – among others.
