KEEN BMX riders in West Devon are being encouraged to get their helmets on and get down to the Tavistock Trails in the Meadows this weekend, for the Tavi Trails Summer Jam.

The event will include an afternoon of competitions for all ages with plenty of prizes on offer from the event sponsors and live music from 3's A Crowd and DJ John Harley.

The event is being supported by Tavistock Town Council and the Tavistock Lions Club as part of the Lions' funday in the meadows.

Lifer BMX will also be providing prizes and offering track-side support during the event.

Vicki Lloyd of Tavistock Youth Café, said: 'Last year we had more than 700 people attend — we hope the weather won't put people off this year. Tavi Riders have put in a lot of effort maintaining the trails, creating new jumps and getting them ready for the jam.'

The Jam will take place this Sunday, July 15, at the Tavi Trails in the Meadows from noon. The competitions will start at noon and are open to all ages, but riders must bring helmets.

The event will cost £1 for spectators and riders which will be put towards the trail's Public Liability Fund, which costs nearly £1,000 a year, allowing riders to use the facility for free.

More information about the event and updates on whether the jam will be affected by the weather will be posted on the Tavi Trails Group Facebook page, which can be found by searching 'Tavi Trails' in the Facebook search bar, and on the Tavistock Youth Café facebook page.

Tavistock Youth Café is also holding a Skate Jam on July 29 at Tavistock Skate Park.
