THE Okehampton Air Cadets Squadron is holding an open day to welcome new members later this month.
2443 Squadron ATC is holding its open day on Saturday, September 28 to showcase just a few of the activities on offer to young people in Okehampton and the surrounding area.
The day also offers the chance for potential staff to find out more about opportunities with the squadron, and meet their new commanding officer, Flt Lt Andy Oliver. Andy has been connected with the cadets since 1987 as an adult, and holds a summer mountain leader award.
Andy said: 'As the new commanding officer of the squadron, I would be delighted to welcome any young people aged from 13 to 18, with or without their parents.
'We are also recruiting staff aged 20 upwards to help run evenings or activities. Previous experience or qualifications is not necessary. The opportunities for staff are almost as broad as those for cadets.
'Staff can achieve formal qualifications including management diplomas, Mountain Leader Awards, First Aid at Work and much more, all at no or low cost. Uniformed staff can also get up to 28 days pay per year for their work.'
The ATC hut is situated adjacent to the Granite Way cycle path on Tors Road. The open day runs from noon to 4pm.
