PATIENTS attending Tavistock Clinic will be greeted by bright, modern facilities following a major refurbishment of the building and its facilities.

An official opening ceremony of the refurbished clinic will take place at 11am on Monday, June 17 with Rama Nand-Lal, the chairman of Tavistock Hospital's League of Friends, and Pat McDonagh, Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust's assistant director of community hospitals, cutting the ribbon.

Services will fully resume from the clinic on Tuesday, June 18.

For the duration of

the three-month refurbishment, which started in mid-March, the clinic's services were temporarily relocated to other nearby NHS facilities in the town to ensure minimum disruption to patients and the services.

Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust which runs the clinic, undertook the revamp — totalling more than £250,000 — to modernise the facilities. Tavistock Community Hospital's League of Friends also donated £15,000 towards the scheme.

The clinic underwent a complete refurbishment to provide a modern health care environment for patients and staff enabling high-quality care to be provided well into the future.

Improvements carried out include a new, dedicated area for chemotherapy services along with the Triangle Centre, run by Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which provides information, support, counselling and complementary therapies to cancer patients and their carers.

There is also an enhanced dental space and podiatry area, structural works to enlarge several rooms as well as general redecoration of the facilities.

Rama Nand-Lal said: 'We are really pleased that we were able to contribute to the refurbishment of the clinic. The renovations will make a huge difference to the patient's experience with a more friendly and welcoming atmosphere and enhanced facilities providing the local community with the highest quality of care on their doorstep.'

Susan Wilkin, Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust's business manager for Tavistock Clinic, said: 'We are delighted with the results of the clinic's refurbishment and we're sure that our patients will be impressed by the transformation.

'Ensuring that our patients have the best possible experience while in our care is our highest priority and we are proud to be able to provide our patients with first-class, modern facilities.'

Services provided from the clinic include podiatry, family planning, child adolescent mental health services, psychiatry, speech and language (children), Triangle Centre (cancer service), chemotherapy, audiology (children) and opthalmology (children).
