A NEW era begins for Okehampton Show today (Thursday) as Stoney Park Showfield hosts the 101st show. Thousands are expected through the gates at the showfield as the agricultural community converges on the town again. It is a qualifying show for the 2006 West of England Heavy Horse Championship and entries in the cattle, sheep and pig classes are all healthy. There will be plenty to see and do with the usual terrier racing, family dog show, morris dancing from the Cogs and Wheels team plus a display by the Passage School of Falconry. In the trade stand area, visitors can see the world?s largest garden spade ? the 3.18m tall garden tool will be the centrepiece of Okehampton-based Country Lanes Garden Centre?s display. The show opens to the public at 9am. Admission ? adults £7; children (5-14) £3; family ticket £17. A free shuttle bus service from Okehampton (outside the Flower Pot) to the showfield will be running during the day.
