THE fireworks display in Tavistock Meadows this Saturday is likely to be the most spectacular ever.

The event is organised by Tavistock Lions Club and two of its members ? Clive Pattison and his son, Anthony ? have passed their British Pyrotechnic Association Exams.

The gates open at 7pm on Saturday and the display will start, weather permitting, at 7.30pm. All profits go to the paediatric resuscitation unit at Derriford Hospital.

The Lions have worked closely with the fire authority in making the main town event the safest way to watch fireworks. Display organiser Clive and Devon Fire and Rescue safety officer John Wilkins stress that lighting fireworks at home is getting riskier, and the larger fireworks being sold to the public are too big for the average garden, some needing up to 25 metres of clear space.

The advice is: be safe and go to the organised displays. As a result of making the Meadows even safer this year, pedestrian access to the viewing area will be at the West Bridge end only (nearest the college). Signs will clearly mark the route to the viewing area.

The public will not be able to walk through the Meadows alongside the river or canal as this will be part of the safety fallout area. Admission to the display will be £2 for adults and £1 for children.
