DON?T forget to buy a duck ? hundreds of yellow plastic ones will be taking to the river this Sunday, May 7, for the Rotary Club of Okehampton?s annual May Fair and Duck Race. The first race gets underway at 2.15pm, where for the price of a pound ticket, competitors will have the chance of winning £100. Fine weather is usually the order of the day so hopefully the only people to get wet will be the Rotarians acting as ?duck herds? in the river to make sure no duck loses its way and all are included in the next race. The tickets will be on sale before the day outside the supermarkets so you do not have to be there to stand a chance of winning. Your prize will be delivered. The May Fair will be opened in Simmons Park by mayor of Okehampton Tony Leech. There will be the usual bouncy castle, roundabouts, target golf, skittles and John Rattenbury?s famous barbecue hot dogs. The town band will entertain during the afternoon, as visitors browse the charity stalls and many other attractions. The money raised by Rotary is used for charitable works both locally and abroad. Recently, the Rotary Club was able to assist following the tsunami appeal by acting as a channel for money raised by other organisations to get to the areas where it was needed most. The entire operation was overseen by Rotary International and its local clubs, demonstrating the international dimension of the organisation.
