A new facility for parents has just been launched in the North Tawton area ? thanks to a lot of hard work and funding support from Exeter Sure Start. North Tawton Out of School Club has just opened its doors at North Tawton Primary School and already has more than 20 children on its books. The idea is the brainchild of Jackie Perrier, of Essington, who had been working as a teaching assistant at the school. She moved to the area last year and, keen to start a new career, looked into the possibilities of starting a privately owned after-school club. Jackie said: ?Following a meeting with Sure Start and a follow-up conversation with the headteacher in January, the idea very quickly escalated and with an enormous amount of help and support from my friend Carol Taylor, particularly when the going got tough as there was so much paperwork, we got so far down the road there was no going back!? Following a huge amount of work to prepare for Ofsted registration, Jackie was given the thumbs up after a gruelling interview and is now registered to provide after-school care for up to 20 children a day. Jackie is now offering places at the club to any children between the ages of 4 and 12, regardless of whether they attend North Tawton Primary School or not. ?The emphasis is on fun and play ? we are not an extension of the school day ? and we offer a wide range of activities such as art and craft, construction toys, board games and puzzles, role play, outside ball games etc.? Jackie now aims to develop attendance at the club so she is not reliant on further grant funding.
