A PLETHORA of award-winning West Devon chefs will be in action at an event showcasing the best of Devon's food at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Jason Hornbuckle and John Hooker from Lewtrenchard Manor, Ross Tregidgo of the Harris Arms, Portgate, and Steve Pidgeon from the Arundell Arms, Lifton, will be among the chefs taking part in a packed cookery programme, including demonstrations, interactive sessions and a cookery challenge at the 'Eat the Devon Way' event.

Other chefs include Stuart Downie, Steve Barringer, James Parkinson, Andrew Honey, Phillip Burgess and Jacques Marchal.

They will all be appearing in the cookery theatre during the course of the two-day event to demonstrate how to cook 'the Devon way'.

Tina Allwork, owner of Hi-T's Fudge, who is organising the event along with local food producers Yarty Valley Cordials and Langage Farm, says: 'We are delighted with the number of chefs wanting to get involved with cookery demonstrations and interactive sessions where the public can join them.

'Everyone is really enthusiastic and excited about this new event and we have every faith that it is going to be a fabulous day for all.'

The new event is being held in aid of the Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal which is raising funds to build a third children's hospice for the region.

Jason Hornbuckle said: 'Having worked with Children's Hospice South West for three years now, through Lewtrenchard Manor charity lunches, I jumped at the chance of being involved with the Eat the Devon Way event.

'It's a great opportunity to showcase the fabulous local produce from this area of the West Country and also a wonderful fun way of raising awareness for such a fabulous local charity.

'The event is sure to be a fabulous weekend of fun for all the family.'
