TWENTY of the foremost cheese makers in the region will be at Tavistock Town Hall next weekend for the popular Tavistock Real Cheese Fair.
The event, now in its sixth year, attracts thousands of people, and is organised by Gary and Elise Jungheim, of Country Cheeses. This year there will be new cheesemakers attending the fair, which often prompts visitors to take up the skill.
Gary said: 'The flavour of the event gets better and better, the cheese makers get more and more excited and the public get ever more "gobsmackingly" wonderful "real" cheeses to taste.
'Each year we have brand new, never seen before, fantastic cheeses "rolled out", so to speak, and this year is no exception — our own blue hits the stage
and . . . well, it's a stonker!
'It is absolutely free to get in. There are not many places you can go and taste around 65 different cheeses, chat with experts who make it, and get a thoroughly good understanding and knowledge of what artisan cheese is and who makes it and why.
'This is education in real taste, showing where proper food comes from and what it means for us and the environment to eat local.
'Cheese is magical, please come and share some with us.'
Cider, wine and preserves from the region will be available, and there will be live music.
The fair runs from 9am to 5pm on Saturday August 27 and 10am to 4pm on Sunday August 28.
