THERE'S a buzz in the air as Callington prepares for its annual Honey Fair next week (Wednesday, October 7) and this year will be the 30th anniversary since the Lions' Club took over the event.

In that time thousands of pounds has been raised for various charities from the fair, which not only includes plenty of honey and honey products but a host of other attractions and entertainment.

There will be cooking competitions and the children's art competition open to the eleven primary schools in the area.

The two subjects this year are the same as 30 years ago: 'Messing about on the river' and 'A day at the fair', and around 900 entries are expected.

Charity stalls, traders and the fun fair will all be there, so too will fortune tellers, clowns, street entertainers and travelling musicians.

Now a regular part of the day is the town criers' competition, attracting participants from far and wide who will be judged on their diction and inflection, volume, clarity, content and dress.

'A book title or title' is the theme for this year's shop window competition and the two town churches are also joining in the event.

The general public have been asked to bear in mind that the two car parks in New Road and the entire length of New Road will be closed on Honey Fair day.

Alternative parking is available at the free car park in Saltash Road and the recreation field.
