THE annual fairground weekend is being staged this month at the home of the Fairground Heritage Trust. Dingles Steam Village, based near Lifton, will host the trust?s annual weekend from September 23 to 24 from 10.30am daily. This event has grown over the years and attracts enthusiasts from all over the country, as well as many local visitors. During the weekend of May 20 and 21 this year the unveiling of the new fairground museum building took place. Inside are two ex-Edwards machines which were put together during the year ? they are the dodgems which date from around 1930, and a Super Chariot Racer dating from 1933. Although the rides will not be operational it is hoped to have them lit for the occasion, using showmen?s engines and showtracs as the main sources of power. The trust has for the past few years tried to show one or two extra items not normally on view. This year in addition to the usual exhibits within the museum there will be a few surprises ? but visitors will have to wait until the day to find out.
