MARTHA is enjoying soaking up the recent spring sunshine. The 12 month old African Grey parrot has picked up quite a fan base with the passing public from her perch outside The Original Barber Shop. Owned jointly by proprietors Paul and Julie Ewings and Paul Burnside, Martha is a big hit with the younger clientele. She says ?hello?, ?all right, mate!? and does a fair imitation of a ringing telephone. Paul Ewings said Martha has also taken to wolf whistling attractive passers by. ?We have had her for nearly ten months. She has been inside the shop until now because it has been too cold to put her outside. ?But she likes being out when it is warm ? now we have to make sure she doesn? t get too much sun,? said Paul. ?She can be a bit destructive. At Christmas she chewed the Christmas lights and took all the bulbs out! Some of our blinds had to be replaced because she destroyed them.? But destructive habits aside, Martha is very friendly and like nothing more than a sociable cup of tea or to share a peanut with an admirer. She is pictured below with Paul Ewings.
