ORGANISERS of Tavistock?s first-ever food festival this weekend say everything is set for a ?brilliant? event, aimed at throwing the spotlight on the fantastic produce this area has to offer.

Top chef Peter Gorton, of the Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy, has arranged a marvellous crew of professionals to demonstrate at the event, which is being held in Tavistock Pannier Market. Dozens of food and drink suppliers will be packing the market with produce and visitors will also be able to enjoy farm walks, cream teas and the town?s farmers? market.

Peter said: ?Basically, it?s all guns blazing now ? we?re ready to go and hopefully it?s going to be a brilliant event.

?I really want it to be a showcase for the suppliers in our region and make the public more aware of what there is right on our doorstep. I really want to push Tavistock, which is such a lovely town ? and I want everybody to have a bit of fun.?

Peter is also hoping to raise funds for the Children?s Hospice South West ? his own recipe burgers and barbecue sauce will be on sale outside the pannier market and proceeds from these, and the gala dinner being held at Brown?s on Sunday night, will be donated to the hospice.

Tavistock Business Association?s Jeffrey Stackhouse, festival chairman, said: ?Everything?s going to plan, there are no last-minute hitches ? we?re looking forward to welcoming everyone to the festival, everyone?s worked so hard and I hope everyone enjoys it.

Tavistock Food Festival is open this Saturday July 31 between 9am and 5pm and on Sunday August 1, between 10am and 4pm. The farmers? market takes place on Bedford Square on the Saturday and a surprise entertainment is being organised for the Sunday.
