THE officers of the Salvation Army in Tavistock led their last service on Sunday, July 3.

Major Linda Purdy has taken early retirement on health grounds and Major Dawn McGarvey has taken up a new appointment in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

Although they will not be replaced immediately, the Salvation Army is still alive and well in Tavistock and services continue to be held in the United Reformed Church, Russell Street on Sundays at 6pm, followed by light refreshments, to which all are welcome.

We use well-known hymns, there are no rituals to follow and most of our congregation do not wear uniform, so you will not feel out of place or embarrassed by unfamiliarity. There are no strangers at the Salvation Army in Tavistock — only friends we haven’t yet met ! We look forward to seeing you.

In addition we are looking for a pianist to accompany our singing in the services on Sunday evenings, so if you feel you could help us we would be delighted. Please contact Colonel Joan Williams on 01822 617740.
