A SMOKE alarm almost certainly saved a house from going up in flames at Buckland Monachorum last Friday. Firefighters from Yelverton were called to the scene after a resident heard the smoke alarm from a neighbouring house. Crew member Fred Glanville said entry to the property had to be forced as the occupants had gone out and it was found they had left a grill pan on. ?The neighbour called us straight away even though there was no obvious sign of fire,? he said. ?It was lucky that she heard it because had the fire taken hold the house would almost certainly have been lost. ?This serves as an important reminder that smoke alarms are invaluable.?
