OKEHAMPTON artist Alec Davey put on a week-long exhibition of his paintings last week (October 30-November 6) to raise money for the children’s hospice.

The 87-year-old ran the event from his own home and filled his studio with paintings up for sale. He also hosted a raffle with prizes ranging from a painting to bottles of wine.

Mr Davey said most of his inspiration comes from Dartmoor and its landscape, buildings and nature, though he has also painted flowers, still life and pets.

All proceeds will go to Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), a service which provides children and their families with end-of-life care.

Mr Davey, who once owned the first pet shop in Okehampton, said it was one of several charities for which he frequently raises money and hopes to raise at least £300.

The final cheque will be presented to Angela Hammond from CHSW at an Okehampton and District Men’s Probus Club meeting on November 29.
