A WOMAN was recovering in hospital on Tuesday after being trodden on by a horse during a riding accident in the Chagford area. The incident happened on farmland just after 1pm on Tuesday. It is believed the woman fell from the horse into a stream — the animal then trod on her. Devon Air Ambulance was called to the scene — the woman was transported to hospital in Exeter on a spinal board. A spokesman for the air ambulance service said the location in which the accident had happened was 'quite remote' and the woman needed to be taken to hospital as quickly and smoothly as possible. He said the horse was quite large and its weight on the woman's chest had caused injuries to her lungs. The spokesman said the air ambulance managed to get the woman to hospital within about ten minutes. Her injuries were described as nasty but not serious.
