IT was a busy night at Crelake Barracks for the Air Cadet presentation evening. More than 50 parents and friends were treated to a visual review of the squadron?s performance in 2006-2007. Six gold, three silver and ten bronze Duke of Edinburghs awards were gained. Five B Tec public service awards were also achieved. Many cadets also gained their staff, senior, leading and first class qualifications. Relatives and friends toured the headquarters and saw the variety of projects and activities available to cadets. Especially welcome among the guests were ex cadets from the 50s and 60s ? two were able to produce their original log books from 1953 and 1958 for current cadets to see. Squadron padre the Rev Laurie Scott enrolled six new cadets: Thomas Worthington, Ryan Bragg, Alysia De Brau, Jake Sloane, Oliver Lowe and Sinead Kenna. Town mayor Anne Johnson, herself a civilian instructor with the unit, presented son David with his certificate of appointment as a civilian instructor. Unit chairman, Capt Martin Pendle RN, made the presentation of awards. Recipients were: Cadet of the year, James Halliday; NCO of the year, F/Sgt Sarah Roberts; Crook drill trophy, Abegail Bradbury; Sanders trophy, best attendance, Ryan Sloane; Mitchell trophy, sport, Sarah Lucas; Laing trophy, shooting, Tom Ludwig; Spitfire trophy, venture , Catherine Blowey; best junior cadet, Eliza Thomas. Vicky Lister and Kate Boyce received their gold Duke of Edinburgh uniform badges and Martyn Stenlake received his silver badge. The evening was one to remember for cadets Ryan Sloane, Sarah Lucas and Abegail Bradbury as all three were promoted to cadet corporal.
