A TEENAGE boy with suspected spinal injuries was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on Monday afternoon by the Devon Air Ambulance, after it landed in Simmons Park just before 1.30pm.

The 12-year-old Okehampton College student hurt his neck while doing a forward roll in PE and was unable to move it, so the air ambulance was called. After a thorough examination in hospital and improvement in the boy's condition, he went home later that day.

A college spokesman said that in a situation like this it was always best to call in the experts but fortunately no damage had been done.

Earlier in the day the air ambulance flew to Petrockstowe where an elderly male was suffering from cardiac problems and conveyed to the same hospital in Exeter.

It was a busy day for the air ambulance with seven call-outs across the county.
