OPEN access, fly tipping and waste disposal are some of the matters currently under consideration by a newly formed group.
The newly created Country Land and Business Association (CLA) Dartmoor Landowners? Group believes private ownership is crucial to the future of the Dartmoor National Park.
DLG chairman Gavin Dollard said: ?Dartmoor is at the very heart of the Westcountry and plays a vital role in the region?s prosperity.
?However, the misconception that the national park is a publicly owned pleasure ground has to be addressed,? he said.
?We have a major job to do in educating visitors to Dartmoor that it is a privately owned and managed landscape which is dependent on the continued success of the industries and communities within it.?
The group, which held its inaugural meeting, in Princetown recently is a subsidiary of the 2200-member branch of the Devon CLA. It brings together landowners with an interest in the 953 sq km Dartmoor National Park.
The group?s remit is to scrutinise issues which affect land management on Dartmoor, and to influence policy decisions and their implementation within the national park.
The soon-to-be announced mapping of open access under the Countryside and Right of Way Act, planning policy, ?fly? tipping and waste disposal regulations are among items being considered.
?The delicate balance between economic, environmental and amenity issues requires special attention from those most at risk.
?We have set up this forum in order to bring the owners of the park together and to enable them to work in closer cooperation,? said Mr Dollard.
