A TRAINING agency is looking for employers and young people in the Tavistock area.
Plymouth-based PSC Training and Development, which is funded by the Learning and Skills Council, is trying to create vocational training placements with local businesses in the area and give young people further options and direction when choosing their career path.
It aims to offer training predominantly in carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating, motor mechanics and vehicle body repair. PSC is hoping to engage local employers, young people and their parents.
The agency is working with Tavistock College and is attending the 'Collapsed Curriculum Day' on November 26 where it will be able to speak to the students directly themselves and also to their parents and guardians.
There is potential to supply a bus service to transport the apprentices from Tavistock to PSC's training centre in Plymouth for the classroom/ workshop side of their training.
Justin Bailey from PSC said: 'In the current state of our economic climate and all the negativity out there regarding lowest ever employment figures, we are keen to spread a bit of positivity and to demonstrate that it isn't all "doom and gloom".
'We are fortunate enough to be able to offer some exciting opportunities and support young school leavers in Tavistock.'
Mr Bailey added that there was often funding available for employers willing to take on an apprentice.
