I write with reference to the article in last week's Times which describes the decision of West Devon Borough Council to grant the much needed and long awaited planning permission for the replacement watersports facilities at Weir Quay.
I am afraid that the article was incorrect in stating that the permission was 'subject to a legal agreement ensuring that the club relinquishes use of its existing facilities within three months'. The permission is actually conditional on the legal agreement to vacate current facilities being signed within three months.
This legal agreement is required by the council to ensure that there is not a duplication or expansion of facilities in the AONB, and they recognise that the sailing and gig clubs will need to continue use of the current site until such time as the new site is available for use.
