DARTMOOR rangers and an army of volunteers have been busy this week, collecting post–sledging litter from the slopes of Peek Hill near Princetown, a popular sledging destination.

A great many people had a fantastic time in the recent snows, which gave a superb surface for sledging, snowboarding and even ski-ing.

Unfortunately, not all the incredible modes of transport were taken home afterwards.

Some broke and were left in pieces, others were simply lost or forgotten.

And, once the snow went, the hillside was left with a generous scattering of coloured plastic, white polystyrene and even a metal serving tray!

Dartmoor National Park Rangers and their voluntary helpers were this week collecting this detritus by the armful for proper disposal.

Ranger Paul Glanville was trying to capture drifts of expanded polystyrene.

'This looks like the innards of a surfboard that's hit a bump or a rock and smashed – it probably didn't look so bad on the white snow, but now it's all over the place,' he said.
