AFRICAN Princess Komuntale and her daughter Kanyunyuzi have been meeting the people of Tavistock when threy came to the town as guests of Pastor Colin Bond.

The Princess is a member of the Royal family of the Bahema people of Uganda and Congo.

On Saturday she and her daughter attended a special wine and cheese evening held in their honour at King's by the Tavistock Community Church.

Because of the war at the age of six Princess Komuntale ended up in Uganda as an orphan.

'She had gone through the spectrum of luxury to poverty — as an orphan she has no shoes and no school . . .' said Colin.

The Princess now lives in Los Angeles. It was while both she and Mr Bond were visiting Phoenix, Arizona, that they met and realised they were both involved in similar charity work to help people in Africa.

'She has been working to provide education for orphans — and that stems from the fact that while she was an orphan in Uganda a benefactor paid for her education. As a result she went from school to study at university in Nairobi,' said Colin.

'That influenced her. She realised the value of education. As a result she has given her life to the providing of schools for orphans in central Africa.'

Colin — who with the Tavistock Comunity Church is involved in providing much needed help in Rwanda — says they are able to help each other's charities.

While he can help promote the Princess's charity in Tavistock she in return will spread the word on his Rwandan work in America. He hopes the Princess will make a return visit to Tavistock in the not too distant future.
