RESIDENTS in Tavistock are being helped to get healthy through confidential, one-to-one clinics run by Devon Primary Care Trust (PCT).

A new healthy lifestyle clinic is being launched today (Thursday) between 5pm and 7pm at Tavistock Hospital.

The clinic is run by a health trainer and is open to people over 16 who want to make positive lifestyle changes.

It will be held every Thursday between 5pm and 7pm at the hospital.

Health trainers are a new NHS workforce employed across England as part of the Government strategy to prevent ill health and promote healthy lifestyles.

Victoria Banks, health trainer in the South Devon area, said: 'If you are over 16 and would like advice on becoming more active, eating a healthier diet, stopping smoking or sensible alcohol consumption, come along to our health trainer clinic at Tavistock Hospital.

'It is run on a one-to-one basis where we help people to develop a personal health plan over a six to eight-week period of support and advice.

'We can also give people support via text messaging and phone calls.

'We work closely with other health professionals and where necessary we can refer people to appropriate services in the community.'
