THE Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is offering a special Christmas present idea for people who love the ponies but cannot afford one.
The Dartmoor Pony Adoption Gift Pack, which costs £16 for a year, includes a line drawing, an adoption certificate and regular updates on the progress of the chosen pony.
The trust runs the adoption scheme as part of its work to ensure the traditional type of Dartmoor pony, whose numbers are declining, does not become extinct.
The pony you adopt, whether male or female, will be one of a small traditional herd cared for at the trust's centre, near Dartmeet. You will be able to visit them, follow their lives, discover their true value and how important they are to the Dartmoor landscape.
The trust is holding a 'Meet the Pony Day' on December 29, between 11am and 3pm. It will be an opportunity for anyone who has adopted, is considering doing so or would like to find out more about the trust's work to visit the two and four legged folk at the centre.
