North Devon Wheelers(NDW) were out in force again at the weekend with members racing on both Saturday and Sunday at events organised by Mid Devon C.C. and Exeter Wheelers.

Okehampton resident Steve Sage was busiest, racing in both events. He was joined by Adrian Street on Saturday and Ray Retter on Sunday.

In Saturday's 2nd Springtime Pursuit it was mixed fortunes for the two NDW riders. Adrian was unfortunate to suffer from a mechanical problem and was forced to retire at the start of the 2nd lap, but Steve was happy to gain 12th place at the hill top finish of the 30 mile event.

This was after figuring prominently in an attempted race winning break from the main field on the last lap, but his and co escapee Nigel Pokinghorne of Team Alcan's bid for glory were thwarted by the main field with less than half a lap remaining.

In Exeter Wheelers time trial on Sunday Steve was joined on the start line by Ray Retter. Ray who is one of the best veteran time triallists in the South West achieved a time of 41m 29s for the 15 mile hilly event which was good enough for 2nd in the veterans class.

Steve who paid for the previous day's exploits was able to complete the course from Pocombe Bridge to Woodleigh Junction and back in 40m 19s which put him in 5th position overall.

This weekend will be less demanding for the NDW's with only the 3rd and final round of the Springtime Pursuits to test their strength.
