WITHIN five minutes of the kick off, Tavistock?s back row forwards Morgan, Robinson and O?Neill set up a driving maul on Okehampton?s 22-metre line.
Thompson at scrum half, spun the ball out to James at flyhalf who spun a pass out to Lane who broke through three tackles and jinked his way to score a fine try next to the posts. James converted for the extra two points.
The second half was a reverse of the first. Okehampton did their utmost to break Tavy?s strong defence Coe and Roberts thwarted a fine Oke attack by driving them into touch.
From the lineout, Oke broke through the centre of Tavy?s 22-metre line, where Leeson put in a big hit and knocked the attacker back in his tracks. M.Smith recycled the ball to Warlow who kicked through to give Tavy?s winger White a chase, but good Oke covering stopped the attack.
Oke from the ensuing maul kicked the ball deep into Tavy?s 22-metre line from which a penalty decision was given. Oke converted for three points.

THE Tavistock team played creative flowing rugby from the start despite the foul weather. The team took to the field with fourteen players including four provided by Okehampton.
Captain Mark Kerswill was man of the match for his oppotuntistic stealing of the ball at maul formations and his purposeful direct running.
Jake playing out of position demonstartated what a tremendous natural balanced ball handler and committed direct runner he is. Euan Smith played with guile and purpose kicking strategically from his own line.
The team can be proud of their cohesive play despite the conditions and a well drilled opposition.

A good overall performance from the first match of the season saw Tavistock out-play Okehampton in most areas of the game.
Some early good rucking soon provided pack leader Joe Hair with a strong 5 metre run to open the scoring.
The driving rain caused handling problems for both sides in the backs so hard won ball from the forwards and solo runs were the order of the day.
The second of which came from Philip Snell with a fine twisting run over the line.
Okehampton tested the Tavistock defence with some intensive forward pressure but failed to break through.
Centre Elliot Hoyte received the ball on his own line and sprinted the length of the pitch for the third try of the half.
After the turn round more of the same soon saw captain Barnaby Frost carry the ball over in a well formed maul.
Joe Hair took the ball and four defenders over the line for his second and scrum half Philip Snell rounded off the scoring with another dart off the back of a ruck.
Full back Jack Haigh kept Okehampton off the score sheet with some well timed tackles while loose head prop George Harold worked hard in the front.
Elliot Hoyte converted four of the tries adding a further 8 points.
This week Tavistock are at home to Launceston.

TAVISTOCK started the new season with a victory over local rivals Okehampton in appalling conditions on Sunday.
The new front row of Connor Williams, Robert Grove and Jonty Newton, directed by terrier-like scrum half Jamie Stephens, worked well together providing plenty of good ball for their talented backs.
Tavistock went four tries up in the first ten minutes but Okehampton fought back well to pull two back.
As the conditions deteriorated Tavistock scored further tries as the skill and determination of Rhys Davis, together with the power and strength of Sam Northmore and Jonty Newton proved too much for the tiring Okehampton defence.
Okehampton U8s v Tavistock U8s
OKEHAMPON and Tavistock under 8s enjoyed three closely fought games on Sunday with a 10-10 draw, an Okehampton 25-10 win over Tavistock and a Tavistock 15-10 defeat over Okehampton each team winning one game and the third drawn.
In difficult conditions the handling from both sides was of a very high standard with Okehampton passing out of and before the tackle really impressing.
Full credit is due to both squads for producing such high quality rugby in challenging conditions.

OKEHAMPTON being more experienced got off to a fine start, quickly scoring three tries.
However, Tavistock quickly rallied and rarely found themselves in their own half of the pitch for the rest of the match.
The team played well together supporting each others? offensive efforts with commendable vigour, considering the weather.
Gavin Ball worked hard in the centre of the pitch scoring four tries and showed sound potential as a future forward.
Christian Hodges also scored four tries and showed his potential as a winger. Young Callum played a stalwart supporting role in these tries and added one for himself to the team total.
Alexander and Emmy developed sound teamwork in the centre and enthusiastically tagged any offensive effort by Oakhampton.
This week Tavistock play Launceston U7s at home.
