THE Ockment Centre became the 'Ocmundtune Centre' over the weekend, for an action packed creative arts weekend. Ocmundtune Creative Arts organised the art celebration weekend as part of its long running campaign for an arts centre in Okehampton. With funding from Okehampton United Charity, West Devon Borough Council and Okehampton Town Council, the weekend provided an opportunity to hear an eclectic line-up of bands and solo artists from Okehampton and around the South West. During the day there was a variety of art workshops in mask making, singing, creative writing and storytelling, a craft fair and a visual arts exhibition. Highlights of the weekend included musical performances from Aunt Fanny's Handbag, Moor Reason, and Mozura. Throughout the day, keen crafters could enjoy a craft market, or take part in art and craft workshops. Anna Georghiou, one of the event organisers, said: 'The weekend was super. Lots of people supported the events throughout the weekend, and even one quieter session quickly picked up and people started coming in. 'There were lots of highlights, and being around so many artists and creative people was just lovely. 'I will have so many memories — the fine quality of the visual arts, and the mask dancing, and the most amazing set from the Invisible Opera Company. 'It looks like we might do something similar again in the future, but the group has plenty of ideas for other different art events in Okehampton.'
