A POPULAR summer playscheme for children is being run from Okehampton's Tenby House this year — thanks to the generosity of a national charity.
Although the Family Centre has now closed, the support group has taken on the running of the scheme from NCH Action for Children.
Liz Westlake, group chairman, said: 'It was only the generosity of NCH, who have allowed free use of the building for the five weeks of the scheme, that has allowed it to take place.'
Mrs Westlake said Social Services are only sponsoring 24 places this year, so to keep the entry fee down to a level affordable to all, the support group is asking voluntary groups in the area to help with funding.
The scheme takes place at Tenby House on Monday and Thursday each week, from July 24 until August 24.
The sessions will be from 10am until 11.30am for three to six year olds, and 1pm to 3pm for six to 12 year olds, with an entry fee of 50p and 60p respectively.
'Unfortunately the building is only registered to hold 52 children for each session — this means that to be certain of a place for your child, it will be necessary to pre-book them in,' said Mrs Westlake.
Booking forms are available from Tenby House, the Ockment Centre and Chastey's Shoes in Fore Street.
Completed forms should be returned to Tenby House or Chastey's Shoes.
Mrs Westlake said the Support Group has received a small amount of funding to re-open the toy library and newly new clothes service for three years.
'To continue beyond this and provide further services during this period, we are desperately seeking more funding,' said Mrs Westlake.
