A WOMAN who has been living in a chicken shed in a field near Chagford could be forced out of her temporary dwelling after Dartmoor planners became involved in the case.

Dartmoor National Park Authority planning committee members took the decision to authorise legal action to stop the woman using the shed in a field next to Meldon Common as a dwelling.

The unnamed woman owner contacted the authority and confirmed she was living in the shed as she had nowhere else to live.

During a subsequent meeting, the owner confirmed her intention to apply to keep the shed for chickens and indicated its use as a dwelling was only temporary.

Chagford Parish Council opposed the continuing use of the shed as living accomodation.

National Park Authority planners said were an application to be submitted for use of the building as a dwelling, permission could not be recommended for well-established policy reasons.

The authority has informed West Devon Borough Council of the situation.
