Tavistock Pumas 4
Ashmoor Aces 1
THIS hockey game opened with both teams creating strong attacking play but the opposition seemed to have the edge over the Pumas.
John Barratt and Matt Way worked hard to open up the pitch and pass the ball, and Emma White had an excellent game in midfield with strong tackles.
Jo Gaspar and Thomas Honey up front moved the ball swiftly down the pitch for Damian Heard to take shots at the keeper. Pumas were not quick enough for rebound shots and the ball came back up the pitch for the defence of Way and Fiona Dunn to break down.
Susannah Boulle and Laura Armstrong were skilful in their management of the ball and the ease in which they took it past the opposition.
An early break from Ashmoor saw them enter the D and although James Pitts, goalkeeper, saved the first few attempts he was unable to deflect the third strike.
When Dominic Lovett and Nick Boot-Handford came onto the pitch the forward play of Tavistock opened as Lovett was a thorn in the opposition?s side.
The second half saw Way and Barratt pushing more up the pitch and this backed up the strong play of Heard and Honey. Way equalised as the ball was worked between Gaspar and Heard who then passed it to Way to slot it past the keeper.
With spirits lifted Pumas went on the attack. Pitts was strong in goal and cleared the ball every time. Dunn remained solid at the back and had much of a marking game. Boulle and Barratt worked hard through midfield. Heard scored the second goal for Pumas.
Lovett was playing superbly through the middle and it seemed a matter of time before he was going to score but Heard beat him to it for the third goal for Pumas.
Pumas were on the attack and a major offence from the opposition?s goalkeeper resulted in a penalty flick being awarded. Way took it and scored his second goal of the match.
