FA Vase second qualifying round

Tavistock A F C 4

Crediton 3

THE home team started brightly and took a two goal lead. At this stage it looked as if the Lambs were set for a comfortable win.

The goals came when John James fired home from a John Wyatt Cross. This was soon followed when Jarryd Kelly broke free and supplied the perfect cross for Andy sergeant to prod home from five yards out.

The home team then took their foot off the gas and paid the penalty with Crediton scoring three goals in a ten minute spell. Jon Bradford scored the first with a fine drive from 20 yards which found the corner of the net. After this set back, the home team completely lost their composure, and reverted to the long ball tactics, resulting in the visitors taking charge of the game. Matt Trenaman levelled the scores at 2-2 when his shot was deflected into the home goal.

Things got worse for the Lambs in the 39th minute when Lambs keeper Dean Smith brought down Jamie Densham, and up stepped Ben Shephard to convert the spot kick, for the visitors to go in at the interval leading 3-2. This was the worst passage of play by the home team seen at Langsford Park this season.

No doubt there were some harsh words said in the dressing room at half time, as the Lambs came out with renewed vigour, and kept the visitors under pressure for long periods during the second period, but Crediton looked dangerous on the few counter attacks they made. Just as it seemed the visitor's defence would hang on to record what would have been considered a giant-killing win, Jarryd Kelly was brought down in the penalty area in the 87th minute, the spot kick was dispatched by Any Sargent to take the game into extra time.

The Lambs winning goal came in the 110 minute when John Wyatt's cross was volleyed home by Jarryd Kelly from eight yards out to earn a visit to Cullompton in the next round.

There is no doubt that there will have to be a vast improvement if the Lambs are going to have any chance of progressing further in this national competition.
