A DISASTROUS week for Tavistock Bowling Club saw them lose five of the six games played.
Monday?s Foxland trophy competition saw Tavistock men fielding two rinks against Plymouth Civil Service Club. One rink played at home and the other travelled to face their opponents on their Plymouth Green.
Tavistock?s away team of Der Saunders, Brian Preece and Geoff Cork were skipped by Roy Northam and fought out a close encounter to emerge 20-16 winners.
But their win was all in vain, for the home team, led by skip Mike Allen, faced even tougher opposition and lost by a bigger margin than the four shot advantage gained by the away team.
Tuesday?s away fixture saw the Tavistock mixed team journey to Looe for their annual battle.
Looe emerged 114-104 victors after a hard fought tussle on a green with an unpredictable surface.
Tavistock won on two rinks, with skip Mike Allen and his team of Ron Cooper, Geoff Cork and Marlene Paramor notching up a 24-14 victory, and skip Sandy Sanders? squad of Wallace Northey, Val Southern and Derek Bradford coming away having won 16-14.
Skips Roy Northam (18-26), Malcolm Bloomer (16-19), Marion Allen (14-22) and Der Saunders (16-19), all lost.
Wednesday saw Tavistock host the annual Golden Hind Trophy match in which Plymouth and Tavistock ?Sir Francis Drake? clubs join forces to face their historic rivals from Plymouth Hoe.
The match ended in victory for the Sir Francis Drake combination with all three rinks provided by Tavistock performing well and winning their games.
Skip Mike Allen and his team of John Smith, Derek Bradford and Tony Coombs won 19-15. Roy Northam and his squad of Ernie Piper, George Blackburn and Wallace Northey won 26-18, while Der Saunders led his squad of Geoff Cork, David Perry and Brian Preece to a 22-18 victory.
The men?s team journeyed to Unity Park in Plymouth for a match against Beacon Down on Thursday and came away having lost 60-82 after winning only one of the four rinks played.
Skip Roy Northam and his team of Colin Tremaine, Wallace Northey and David Perry managed a 21-13 victory, but skips Mike Allen (14-24), Malcolm Bloomer (15-23) and Eric Stevens (10-22) all lost.
Plymouth Civil Service Club turned out one of their strongest teams for Friday?s men?s league match against Tavistock and notched up a commanding 92-67 victory with only skip Mike Allen and his team of Tony Coombs, Derek Bradford and Pat Sykes managing to win their rink (23-11) for Tavistock.
The week ended with the visit by Paignton Torbay Club for a mixed match which ended in a 137-97 victory for the visitors who won five of the six rinks played.
Tavistock?s only winning rink was skipped by Stuart Doidge who with his squad of Clive Jago, Val Southern and Shirley Blackburn managed to win (28-21).
