CUSTOMERS queueing for their Christmas meat orders in Yelverton will be kept warm with hot drinks this week, thanks to the combined efforts of the village butcher and a band of dedicated charity workers. Staff at Bidders butchers shop have asked the ladies of the Buckland Monachorum Friends of Children?s Hospice South West group to keep their customers happy by providing free hot drinks while they wait for their orders. They have agreed to donate cash to the hospice in return for their help. Martine Mills, of Bidders, said: ?Customers queue out of the door and around the corner on the main days before Christmas, sometimes for up to two hours. ?We thought it would be good to raise some money for the hospice and provide a service to our customers at the same time.? Linda Downing, chairman of the friends? group, said a big thank you to all the volunteers who will be donating their precious time between 8.30am and 6pm today (Thursday), tomorrow and on Christmas Eve to serve the drinks. ?I?ve told them they are going to thoroughly enjoy it ? and they are only two-hour stints!,? said Linda, who was keeping her fingers crossed for dry weather.
