PERFORMER and puppeteer Josh Elwell makes a welcome return to Devon for Villages in Action when he performs at Throwleigh this March. This time he is joined by Jeremy Avis who will provide live music for the show. Josh's family oriented shows are a sheer delight, with puppets, songs and Josh's wicked sense of fun appealing to people of all ages: there is often a wink to the adults! He always has a cleverly inventive set and props and the puppets for this particular show have been made by Georgian master puppet-maker Nino Namitcheishvili. Bird in the Hand' is based on a true story from the Victorian circus. Josh found out about 'Irma Orbasany and her performing Cockatoos', because she was the great grandmother of his wife Rebecca. Irma ran away from a wicked stepmother to set sail across the seas with internationally famous Barnum & Bailey's Circus. She became one of the greatest acts of the age. Children and adults alike will be inspired by Josh and company's show: this is up close, thrilling theatre, visual, vibrant and enchanting, a real treat.
