FOUR generations of the same family got together for an extra special day recently, when they celebrated a birthday and golden wedding anniversary last month.

Birthday girl, Vera Bray and husband, John Bray, celebrated their special day on Monday, September 14, two days before Vera's birthday.

A family meal at The Countryman at Sampford Courtney saw Ralph, Vera's father, John and Vera, their children and spouses and seven grandchildren, join together for a family meal of 15 people.

The couple met at Okehampton's East Street Methodist Church when they were in their teens and married four years later, two days after Vera's 21st birthday.

Vera is the second of three children to Ralph and Irene Leach of Brightly in Okehampton and John is second of seven children to Gard and Elizabeth of Ivy Bray of Stockley Farm.

The couple went on to have three of their own children.

The couple also expressed thanks to all those who supported their coffee morning held at Fairplace Methodist church, which raised more than £400 for the restoration fund and the Samaritans purse shoebox appeal.
