REGARDING the proposed demolition of The Old Folk's Rest Room, and erection of a shop in its place — yet again, I find myself writing to object to these proposals.

The Old Folk's Rest Room — now the over 60s Rest Room, was built for exactly that, a convenient place in the middle of the town for the elderly and less-able to rest, meet, chat, shelter, have a cuppa, and make new friends, as well as catching up with old friends.

It is a valuable asset to the town. Not only for local folk, but visitors alike. To demolish this building and build some crass retail 'thing' in its place is downright criminal, and not as was intended. Bring it back to its intended use!

As for demolishing the rest room and building a shop, we do not need yet another empty retail outlet. Look around. We have enough of those already. It would spoil the 'Best Market Town' even further. If not careful, Tavistock will lose its character.

My retort to the whole shebang is 'No, No, No, No, No'. Leave us alone! (And that is my polite version!).
