TWO Okehampton Air cadets have spread their wings this summer as they work to achieving their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Cadet Warrant Officer Nick Browne and Sergeant Stacey Pavely of the 2443 (Okehampton) Squadron Air Cadets recently journeyed to the Picos De Europa Mountains in Northern Spain to undertake their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition.
This involved a four day trek with three nights' camping in the mountains during which they had to carry all of the expedition's equipment including tents, stoves, clothing and food for the four days.
It was a tough task for the two intrepid explorers with long, hot days followed by cold nights.
However, both Nick and Stacey managed to successfully complete the expedition section of their awards.
Nick is hoping to complete his award in the near future while Stacey hopes to finished by the middle of 2009.
They would like to express their thanks to Okehampton Education Foundation, Okehampton Round Table, Okehampton Rotary Club, EX20 Lottery and Masons Lodge who helped make their expedition possible by helping them with funding.
