PRINCETOWN village?and the primary school recently benefited from The Dartmoor Discovery (DD).

The endurance event is the UK's longest single lap road ultra-marathon held on the first Saturday in June — and the head quarters for this year's event was at Princetown Primary School.

During the Friday evening and Saturday morning the school was alive with runners keen to register and collect their numbers.

Club chairman and DD Race director Roger Hayes said: 'We are so grateful to be able to use the school's facilities, from the toilets and changing areas to the car park. With more than 200 runners descending upon us, we need a venue big enough to cope and the school is just perfect for us.'

Roger added: 'As a way of showing our appreciation, we were delighted to be able to present the school with a "friendship bench" — a place where children can sit with their friends.'

The event provided a welcome financial boost to Princetown, with many of the runners making a long weekend of it by staying in the village. Plans are already underway for next year's event which will take place on June 4.
