Okehampton & District Table Tennis Club Pretoria Handicap Cup IN the Pretoria Handicap Cup the last quarter final was between Okehampton A and Bridestowe. In a close hard fought match Okehampton A proved too strong in the two doubles, winning both in straight sets and two of the five singles to give them a close 4-3 victory. In the first semi-final Tavistock was at home to Moretonhampstead A. Tavistock proved too strong for the two players of Moreton and ran out 7-0 winners. Peter Richardson did well to take Fred Phillips to a 3rd leg decider, just losing out in the third. In the second semi-final Okehampton A were at home to Moretonhampstead B. Frank Cockburn took Richard Underhill all the way but Richard finally won 22-20, 17-21, 21-23. Peter Denman and David Shilston won their singles in straight sets to put Moreton into a 5-0 lead. The doubles proved a lot harder for Moreton. Barry Vaughan and Frank Cockburn were against David Shilston and Richard Underhill in the first Moreton winning 13-21, 21-19, 15-21, in the second John Squire and Frank Cockburn were against Peter Denman, another 3rd leg decider, Moreton just winning 23-25, 22-20, 6-21 to give Moreton B a 7-0 win. The Final of the Pretoria Handicap Cup is to be played next week between Tavistock A and Moretonhampstead B. Tavistock A having already won Division One and the Bill Fogerty Trophy are trying to complete the treble.
