MOUNT Kelly's 'A Team' are over the moon after winning a prestigious South West regional award.

Mount Kelly product design department entered two Year 9 teams into the national Go4SET (Go 4 Science, Engineering and Technology) scheme — and were delighted when the team won the 'best overall project' and also gained their silver CREST award for outstanding work, despite fierce competition.

The aim of the scheme is to encourage students into science engineering and technology based careers by involving them in real life challenges, solving engineering-based problems or designing new products.

This year both teams worked with Babcock engineers to design new environmentally friendly, sustainable sports venues.

As part of the challenge, the students had to research sustainable materials and energy systems, design and model their idea and present this to a panel of engineers at Plymouth University in June.
